5 best practices to attract more candidates
If sourcing and attracting candidates from diverse backgrounds is a persistent challenge for your company, there are a few things to do before you post an open role.
- Review your existing job postings - Make sure the language you’re using is clear, specific and doesn’t include gender-coded or exclusionary language like “aggressive”, “challenging” and “rockstar”.
- Diversify your recruitment channels - Rather than expecting different results from the same sources of hire, try expanding your recruitment channels by partnering with groups and organizations that actively support marginalized or underrepresented communities.
- Audit your employee referral program - It’s proven that employees are more likely to refer people from similar backgrounds. If employee referrals are a key part of your recruitment strategy, encourage employees to expand their network and/or reach out to individuals who are outside their usual circles.
- Educate your recruiters and hiring managers - Most of the time, the real issue isn’t a lack of talent from a specific community, but how recruiters and hiring managers are finding and screening talent. Work to create an inclusive environment via a dedicated DEI strategy and by enrolling in employee training focused on reducing hiring bias.
- Utilize blind hiring - By utilizing blind hiring tools, you can anonymize identifying information that could potentially bias a hiring decision.
The best job boards put the candidate first
Before you publish your open role, it’s important to know exactly what “diversity” looks like at your organization.
Be intentional about the goals you set, the policies you create, and the words you use when marketing your employer brand to underrepresented communities. Above all, take time to listen and really hear the expert perspectives coming from the individuals you’re seeking to include.
With Breezy, you can automatically post open roles to the top diversity job boards, access exclusive discounts on top job sites, streamline your EEOC/OFCCP compliance, and enable blind hiring tools to reduce bias and hire the best candidates faster.
